Our Curriculum

Kindergarten –

Phonics - Various resources provided by the teacher that will include a letter of the week, printing practice, and phonics games.

Math - Various resources to introduce #’s, # sense, basic math concepts, along with playjng games to reinforce the concepts.

Unit Studies - Each unit will be based on stories that are read in class and will include, crafts, science, social studies ad writing. Topics included but not limited to holidays, seasons, life cycles, habitats, animals and community.

Supply fee - $ 25 per child, 2 reams of copy paper

Parents- Please have a marked backpack, refillable water bottle, school supplies such as glue sticks and pencils with grippers. The teacher has the additional supplies but you are more than welcome to have your child bring their own. A tissue box for the classroom use.

Parents are required to teach phonics and math at home. You are free to choose the curriculum that fits your child’s needs and learning style. If you need guidance or advise please make an appt. with the director, Misty Cook

Grade 1-2

L.A. - Unit studies that will include grammar, writing and reading with arts and crafts, there will be an overlap of science and social studies depending on the book. They will begin reading chapter books

A final reading list of the books we will be reading will be updated by the end of Feb. but here are a few titles; Charlottes Web, Flat Stanley. The books may be a bit difficult for a 1st grader to read unaided but the teacher will be reading and the unit studies will be adapted to fall between the two groups.

Math- Will consist of hands-on projects and games.

Art and Activities: by Carolyn Ford

Brunetto and Hands-on! Math Projects: Hands On by: Andrew King. The curriculum will

be supplied by the school.

We will be using math projects and games during our math time that will be used to

reinforce the math concepts students need to succeed in math. The concepts will be

hands on, project based, and you will want to incorporate another curriculum or math

book into your school days for consistent and foundational learning.

History -

Science – We will use various resources to teach the students about Plants, Water, Seasons, Oceanography, Biology, Astronomy, and chemistry, at an age appropriate level.

Art- It will be provided throughout the curriculum

Grades 4-5

L.A. - Unit studies that will include grammar, writing and reading. Please see the

attached list of books that we will choose to be read in class. The Prince Warriors by

History –Exploring Countries and Cultures. We will go through the first half of the

countries and the following year we will finish out the last half. Our class will consist of

projects and read aloud time to truly immerse ourselves in the time period. Your child

may read additional books at home to develop their knowledge of the subject.

Science - Properties of Ecosystems and Living World Encyclopedia.

*Parents can purchase the textbook Properties of Ecosystems by Debbie and

Richard Lawrence 4 th edition if they want to continue at home.

Art- it will be provided throughout the curriculum

Grades 7-8

L.A. - Literature based learning that integrates reading, grammar and writing that includes discussion. It is important to allow the students to process their thoughts and be able to articulate them. attached list of books that we will choose which will be read in class. A final list will be given upon registration. but here a few titles;

A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeline L’Engel, Anne of Green Gables by

L.M Montgomery, The Call of the Wild by Jack London, The Swiss Family Robinson by

Johan Wyss, Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne, Treasure Island by Robert

Louis Stevenson

Encyclopedia of the Human Body by Fiona Chandler

Art- It will be provided throughout the curriculum

Grades 9-12

L.A. - We will be reading from various authors throughout the year. Our goal is to

grow our literary skills. Students will learn how to write an argumentative essay;

we will aim to write 4-5 in total. Grammar related to the lesson is included in the

curriculum, but you should purchase a grammar book for at home lessons. One

essay prompts the student to compare and contrast the gods' motivations and

relationships in Bulfinch's Mythology.

  • History – Ancient History- Our history curriculum has a large overlap into our

language arts program but there will be a set time for our students to read novels

for discussion and growth.

Rotation is Ancient History- World History- US History 1877- 1877 to Present

We will read books from that time period, write essays, complete projects. Some

of the books are;

Science- Astronomy- Video-based lessons, quizzes and tests. The students will come

to class, watch the videos, participate in group discussions and do projects. This aligns

with ancient history. We will also have two field trips to the Planetarium.

Curriculum costs: $150

Art- It will be provided within the curriculum.
