Kindergarden

  • Various teacher provided resources, including a letter of the week, printing practice, and phonics games.

  • Various resources introducing numbers, number sense, and basic math concepts, reinforced through games.

  • Each unit is built around stories read in class and includes crafts, science, social studies, and writing. Topics include, but aren't limited to, holidays, seasons, life cycles, habitats, animals, and community.

  • $25 per child, plus 2 reams of copy paper.

  • Please provide a marked backpack, refillable water bottle, and basic school supplies such as glue sticks and pencils with grippers. The teacher has extra supplies on hand, but children are welcome to bring their own. A tissue box for classroom use is also appreciated.

  • Parents are required to teach phonics and math at home, using a curriculum that best fits their child's needs and learning style. For guidance, please schedule an appointment with the director, Misty Cook.

1st & 2nd grade

  • Unit studies combining grammar, writing, and reading with arts and crafts. Science and social studies topics will overlap depending on the book. Students will begin reading chapter books. A few titles include Charlotte's Web and Flat Stanley; a final reading list will be posted by the end of February. Some books may be challenging for 1st graders to read alone, so the teacher will read aloud, and unit studies will be adapted to suit both grade levels.

  • Hands on projects and games designed to reinforce core math concepts. Resources include Art and Activities by Carolyn Ford Brunetto and Hands On Math Projects by Andrew King; the curriculum will be supplied by the school. Since our approach is project based, we recommend pairing it with another math curriculum at home for consistent, foundational learning.

  • Age appropriate exploration of plants, water, seasons, oceanography, biology, astronomy, and chemistry, using a variety of resources.

4th - 5th grade

  • Unit studies combining grammar, writing, and reading. See the attached list for book selections: The Prince Warriors by Priscilla Shirer, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, A Door in the Wall by Marguerite De Angeli, Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, and Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt.

  • Exploring Countries and Cultures. We'll cover the first half of the countries this year and finish the rest next year. Class time includes projects and read alouds to immerse students in each time period; additional reading at home is welcome. Parents will need to purchase Student Sheets.

  • Properties of Ecosystems and the Living World Encyclopedia. Parents wishing to continue the subject at home may purchase Properties of Ecosystems by Debbie and Richard Lawrence, 4th edition.
